German short rows tutorial

In this post I'll refer you how to knit using short rows method but it won't be classic "wrap & turn" one. This time I am showing you German version of shaping our knitwear using short rows. Why am I showing another technique? The answer is clear - it's because this method looks much neater, the gaps between each row are hardly noticeable in finished knits.    So let's start the tutorial...   * * *     Knit to the point where you want to add the short row.  

  Turn the work to the other side and slip first stitch from left needle as if to purl.  

 

The stitch with the working yarn is now on the right hand needle.  

  Pull the yarn tail across the top of the needle and to the back.   

 

 This will create a double stranded-looking stitch.

 

Bring yarn in position to purl. Purl across the row to the point  where you want to add another short row.

 

 Turn the work and pull the yarn tail to the front between the two needles. 

 

Slip first stitch from left needle knitwise.  

 Pull the yarn tail across the top of the needle and to the back. This will also create a double stranded-looking stitch.  

 

 Bring yarn in position to knit. 

 

 When you come to the odd stitches,  they will look like this.

 

 Insert right needle tip through both strands. Work those strands like knit 2 tog. Knit acorss to the and of row, turn.

 

 Purl across to odd stitches.

 

 When you come to odd stitches at purl side purl 2 tog both strands.

 

The finished knit piece with neat short rows.    Very clever method!
